Moissanite vs Cubic Zirconia
Moissanite, cubic zirconia and diamonds: the honest guide
We do not sell diamonds. We sell two diamond alternatives, and every product page tells you which one you are buying.
Moissanite
Moissanite is a lab-grown gemstone (silicon carbide). It is not a diamond and it has different optical properties: it bends light more than a diamond does, so it shows more fire and colour. It rates 9.25 on the Mohs hardness scale, just under diamond at 10, so it keeps its sparkle with everyday wear. Our moissanite pieces are set in 925 sterling silver.
Cubic zirconia
Cubic zirconia is a lab-made crystal cut like a fine gemstone. It is clear and bright, rates 8 to 8.5 on the Mohs scale and gives you the look for the lowest price. It can lose some brilliance over the years, so we recommend cleaning it regularly.
Why lab-grown stones
Lab-grown stones are made in a controlled setting, not mined. You get a beautiful stone at a fraction of the price of a mined diamond.
Which one should I choose?
- Engagement, anniversary or everyday ring you will wear for years: moissanite.
- Fashion pieces, stacking or the best price: cubic zirconia.
Some of our rings come in both: just pick your stone on the product page.
